About

The Cybersonica AV Lab 08 was a week-long residential creative & practical workshop exploring sound, moving image, art and technology which took place at The Basement, Argus Lofts, 24 Kensington St, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 4AJ from Sunday, 2nd – Sunday, 9th November 2008.

The AV Lab programme was developed and delivered by a core team of Lewis Sykes (Cybersonica), Ray Lee and Steve Symons (Owl Project) with support from producer Sarah Littman and AV technician Bruno Mathez.

13 participants were selected from a total of ~26 applications – mostly from the UK.

The schedule progressed through team building, ‘show and tell’ from team and participants, collaboration exercises, practical creative challenges, an ‘away-day’ to devise site-specific work at the De La Warr Pavilion and workshops to develop collaborative work.

The programme also featured additional presentations and on-site practical support from a range of contributors including: Matt Olden (I Am The Mighty Jungulator), Mike Faulkner (D-Fuse), Evan Raskob (OpenLab), Jules Rawlinson, Kathy Hind (NIP), Martyn Ware (illustrious), Thor Magnusson (IXI) and Tom Belton (Sharpine).

Public facing programming included an AV Lab themed Digiville – Lighthouse’s monthly event for digital and moving image artists (~40 audience) – and a ‘Work In Progress’ Showcase on the final evening (~50 audience).

AV Lab participants also presented new work at the Future Of Sound 08-09 Tour event at the De La Warr Pavilion on 22nd November 2008 and some contributed to or helped with the delivery of subsequent Future Of Sound events.
